David
Yarrington, Executive Brewer
David
Yarrington began his facination with beer after many hours of
field research during college led him to start home brewing.
Having graduated from Colby College, and with his Chemistry degree
firmly grasped in hand, he found himself, after a manditory year
as a ski bum in Wyoming, at the doors of the Twenty Tank Brewery
in San Francisco. With his size 11 1/2 foot firmly planted in
the jamb, they had no choice but to hire the eager lad. 7 years
later and having worked at Tommyknocker Brewery, Golden Pacific
Brewing Co., The Commonwealth Brewing Co., and Tokyo Brewing
Co, David figured he'd better actually learn some science behind
the art of brewing and so enrolled in the UC Davis Master Brewers
Program. In August of 2001 he took over the duties of Executive
Brewer at Smuttynose, a position he tenuously holds at the present
time.

Greg
Blanchard, Head Brewer
Greg Blanchard started
his brewing career as a young boy collecting beer bottle caps.
At that age, it was just a collection. But as time passed, he
realized his calling. Born in Athens, Georgia, he made his way
to New Hampshire when he was three. He grew up attending the
Oyster River school system and later graduated from UNH with
a Food Service Management degree. In 1998, after seven years
in the food industry, he chose to take a chance at a part-time
bottling position at Smuttynose. With many years of homebrewing
experience and having read many brewing books, he decided this
was the path for him. After all, brewing was similar to food
science in terms of recipe formulation, sanitation and a strict
compliance to consistency. After several years of hard work,
he rose to Head Brewer, a position he has held for four years.
In 2002, he earned a scholarship to attend the MBAA's Brewing
and Malting Science course in Madison, Wisconsin.
Greg is an avid New
England sports fan. While not at work he enjoys time with his
wife Kristie, live music, camping, boating, travelling, and the
seemingly endless work on his new (but old) house.

Chuck
Ireland, Brewer
Chuck is a one-hundred
percent homegrown Seacoast guy. Before starting at Smuttynose
in 2000, he dabbled in some pretty random stuff. Some so random
it just shouldn't be mentioned. Once having mastered plucking
bottles off the line, he moved into the cellar and ran with it.
Chuck spends most of his summers fishing, hiking, climbing and
heckling tourists that drive the wrong way through Market Square.
During the winter, you can find him snowboarding, snowshoeing
and trying to stay warm with a nice pint of Barleywine on frigid
nights. Besides that, he's your average joe with a kick-ass set
of mutton chops!

Dan
Schubert, Brewer
Even
though it's in his German blood, Dan learned the craft of brewing
here at Smuttynose. After graduating from UNH with a physics
degree he started filling in on the bottling line for a friend
who was the neighbor of Head Brewer Greg. Ever since, it's been
English barleywines and maibocks instead of electricity and magnetism.
Born in Washington, DC, and raised in Maryland, Dan enjoys living
in Maine and growing organic veggies. You can catch him on the
fields playing ultimate or in the woods ice fishing, camping,
hiking and peeking through his telescope at the stars.

Kevin
Love, Sales Manager
Kevin
Love has been with our company since 1997, and has held the sales
managers position since 1998. He's been involved in the beer
business on and off since 1982, working both the retail and supply
side of it. You could almost say he's been involved since his
childhood, when he would make trips to his father's work place,
the original Ballantine Brewery in Newark, NJ. Currently living
in the Seacoast area, he has been a New Hampshire resident since
1992.

Renee
Thomas - NH, VT & ME sales
Renee
is a native Texan and longtime resident of the Seacoast. She
is married with four children and two chihauhaus. After working
in the restaurant business for six years, she decided to try
life on the other side of the bar and found a home with Smuttynose
as a sales rep in 2001.

Dan Henry - MA,
RI & CT sales
Dan found a fascination for beer down by a river after rugby
games at the University of Maine. After Graduating in 2002 the
Maine native found his way down to the big city of Boston looking
for a new job and more beer education.
In between waiting
tables at the Kinsale in Boston, Dan has traveled the globe,
worked with street kids in Brazil, coached rugby at BU, and tried
to jump in the ocean wherever and whenever. In August 2006, Dan
went to work for Craft Brewers Guild, Smuttynose's Massachusetts
distributor, and after 11 months he found his way over to Smuttynose
as there southern New England rep.
When not selling the
"Finest Kind", you can find this Maine boy biking (either
down a mountain or on some random road), jumping in the ocean,
or if there is snow on the ground, trying to get to a mountain
and strap a board to his feet.

Tom Briggs - New
York Sales
Since graduating with
a degree in English Literature in 1996, Tom has worn many hats
for many companies. Trading mutual funds, leading historical
tours, and recovering stolen Teddy Bears are just a few (the
last one, unfortunately, is no joke), but he found his true calling
when a friend plucked him from a modest bartending gig and set
him up as a beer salesman. After spending three years in the
bars, restaurants and retail outlets of Boston and New York City,
advancing the presence of craft beer one shelf set and draught
line at a time, Tom took a seven month breather as the manager
and co-conspirator of a small Beer Bar in New York City's Lower
East Side. Now he joins Smuttynose as the New York and New Jersey
rep for our ever-expanding brewery. When not out on the streets
trying to get deli owners to move the Old Brown Dog to a better
cooler location, Tom can be found reading obscure beer and whiskey
journals, trekking central park on foot, watching toxic amounts
of programming on the History Channel, or in a Boston-expatriate
bar cheering for the Red Sox.

Robby Brondolo -
National Accounts Manager
Robby is an Italian
citizen but considers herself a global nomad, having been born
in Uganda and consequently living in many countries of the world
including Egypt, Ethiopia, China and the Emirates. Following
her Bachelor's Degree in Political Science from the University
of Turin - Italy, she ventured across the Atlantic to further
her education. She received her Master's Degree in Business in
2001 and moved to the Seacoast to begin her career in marketing
and sales. After a short stint in a software company she found
a niche in international sales brokering electronics to overseas
clients at ungodly hours of the morning. As a jack of all trades
and master of none, her free time is spent cultivating her passion
for the outdoors. When she isn't riding her horse or mucking
stalls as a Dover Mounted Police volunteer, she enjoys traveling,
scuba diving, fishing, lobstering, snowboarding, cigars and a
few brews at the pub. Never in a million years did she think
that one of her passions could turn into a career until one day,
sitting at the pub chatting it up with the usual suspects over
a Big-A IPA, she encountered Smuttynose Brewing Company.

Peter
Egelston, Company President
Peter
Egelston wasn't always a beer guy. After graduating from NYU
in 1981 with a degree in Spanish Literature, he quit his job
as a hotel doorman and took a more "dignified" position
- at one third the pay - teaching English as a Second Language
in Times Square. Later, he became a high school teacher in Brooklyn.
Then, in 1986, his sister Janet passed through town and talked
him into abandoning his job and home and joining her in Massachusetts
where they would open what is now the oldest brewpub in the northeast:
the Northampton Brewery. Peter was head brewer there until 1991.
That
year, they opened the Portsmouth Brewery, the Granite State's
first brewpub. In 1993, Peter attended the auction of the bankrupt
Frank Jones Brewing Company. Not intending to bid on anything
that day, he walked away having purchased the brewery that was
to become Smuttynose.
Through
it all, he's still mainly a Democrat, uses a Mac, and his devotion
to the Red Sox* is second only to his love for his girlfriend
Joanne and their old brown dog Olive.

Olive,
Spokesmodel & Company Mascot, 1991 - 2007
Olive,
our old brown dog, the grande dame of Smuttynose, was our official
greeter. Best known as the model on our Brown Dog Ale bottle,
she enjoyed chasing tennis balls and squirrels, long walks on
the beach and pasta with cheese. A lifelong student of human
character, Olive didn't suffer fools gladly. She died peacefully
at home in March, 2007, one month shy of her sixteenth birthday.
