Gunsmoke Kate
Hi Peter!
This is Gunsmoke Kate, a member of the North American Versatile
Hunting Dog Association. She is a fabulous work dog and she's
on her way to the 2004 NAVHDA Invitational Test in Mexico, Missouri.
She would be very pleased to represent Old Brown Dog Ale.
She would like
to meet with you to see how close she is to the dog on the bottle
of old brown dog. Look up www.navhda.org to see what a dog has
to do to get to that level. 225 qualify in a 2yr period around
the country which involves many breeds

This Abby Swenson (American Chocolate Lab of Jeffrey Swenson)
during her first snow in Andover. I think that she is about 5months
old here.

Fiver
This is Fiver, our third miniature pinscher. One day, he
too will be an Old Brown Dog. Unlike many of the labs featured
here, he is not a fan of swimming, as is obvious in this picture.
His brother and sister are black and tan wait a minute, I'm seeing
a trend here. Many thanks for OBD and Robust Porter

I saw a six pack of your Brown Ale and picked it up on a
whim. My dog Patrick would like to meet Olive since they are
both GSP's. I got it... and I'm going to get some more!!!

Morgan
Hi Peter,
Here are acouple
shots of our German Short Haired Pointer "Morgan" She
is from a shelter in California, but now we live in Exeter N.H.
Her hobbies include chasing squrilles, beggin' any food, and
barking at motorcycles while driving Shot-Gun. We both enjoy
"Old Brown Dog" I think she may like it more than I
do...Is there a doggy AA???

Foster
Foster McLoster, from the clan "McLoster."
He's a Catahoula mix. He's one very chill dog. That is until
you ask him "Wanna go out?"
He's always down to go hiking in the Colorado Rockies with me.
Foster is about 5 years old and likes Micro brews.

Digger
Here's Digger! He came to me via the Southern California
Labrador Retriever Rescue organization when he was 3 months old.
I'm told he's chocolate lab and boxer, though I believe he's
got some weimaraner as well. While visiting my family in New
Hampshire I came across your Old Brown Dog Ale and was struck
by the resemblance of your brown dog to my brown dog. Alas, Digger
has not tried your brew as I cannot find it locally.

This is our young brown dog. Greyhounds like to run but I think
digging is pretty high on their list. Here's Tucker taking a
break from the excavation. Thanks,

Peter-
I've been perusing your web site. If you've got room for another
Labrador shot, please accept this one of my kids: Budwell Stewart-
"Buddy" (chocolate male) and Indigo Appledore- "Indi"
(black female). They are brother/sister from the same litter,
5 years old.

SAMSON
& SKOOL
2/13/04
My
wife and I have two Old Brown Dogs, Samson and Skool. Well, one
isn't quite brown, but Samson makes up for that in stature. Our
true Brown dog is a street tramp from the Hartford, CT, dog warden.
He was 17 pounds when we got him, a couple of years work and
he's now up to normal at 70 pounds. A fine friend he's turned
out be...
These
pictures are from a couple of days after Christmas. The boys
got the left over ham bones. For your reference, Samson is the
black dog, a larger than normal shepherd at a little over 130
pounds. Skool is the brown dog. Sherry delivered our crazy little
dog to us from an abandon building where he was left tied to
a stake. My wife picked the name. It's Norse, referring to the
wolf that chases the sun across the sky.
Ever
consider promoting your Scotch Ale to a regular production schedule?

SCOUT
1/5/04
Peter,
Peg
and I lived in NH from 1986 to 1990, mostly in Exeter. Great
place. Our NH friends brought some of your beers down during
their recent Christmas visit (we now live in Northern NJ, which
is actually a great area, I know, hard to believe). That was
the first time I drank smuttynose beer. Good stuff. And this
is from a guy who lived/worked in Germany for 6 months. I especially
liked the Brown Dog ale.
As
such, I attached a photo of Scout. He's a black lab mix and an
awesome dog who loves hiking in the mountains. Scout was saved
from a kill shelter in SC.
Keep
the beer flowing and the seacoast clean.

DONNIE
1/7/04
Donnie
is a Black lab, he just moved from San Diego to New York with
me. So he went from swimming, beaches and beautiful weather to
Snow, bitter days and overcast skies. Seems that he made the
adjustment better than me. The first time he saw the snow I couldn't
gather him up to bring him back in the house.

I am
attaching a picture of our big Brown Dog. Her name is Ellie May
and she is a 4 years old Chocolate Lab. As you can see she is
into motorcycle riding as well as fetching anything. She is getting
a new sister (a black Lab. Puppy) for Christmas.
Thank
you,

This
is a picture of Sadie, our Chesapeake Bay Retriever. She is about
10 months old in this picture, taken at our wedding reception
this summer in North Hampton, NH. We drank lots of Smuttynose
Old Brown Dog Ale and Sadie made our guests (and a few of the
catering folks) throw her ball into the swimming pool so she
could launch herself into the water. We all had a great time!

Peter,
I met some smuttynose reps at the Providence Beer Festival last
month who told me about the pinup page on your site. I have a
very cheesy picture of my lab. My wife and mom would get a kick
out seeing Maggie on the web. BTW your beer is still my beer
purchase of choice here in Rhode Island, especially the Porter
and Old Brown Dog ale.
Thanks,
Thom

Here is a photo of my Brown Dog. He is pure bred and even has
a fancy name, Shiloh's Montana Winchester. Nonetheless, he is
still a rescue dog. He goes mostly by Chet but will also answer
to Brown, Brownie, Brownar, Chocula, Brown Fang or 'Would you
like a treat?' He loves water and fetching and cuddling most
of all. (Howling is also fun.)

My name is Kisley and I am an Old Brown Dog. 12 years old to
be exact. Mom and Dad like to frequent your establishment downtown
and sometimes they even bring a little bit of brew home for me
to taste. Here is a picture of me enjoying an Old Brown Dog at
Chauncey Creek Lobster Pound this past summer. Hope I can join
my canine friends on your website.

Hi Peter!
My
dog Kermit is a BIG brown dog! He is a 2-year-old Chessie. Here
he is on
top of Saddleback Mountain in September. After our hike we went
for a swim
(big surprise!) and attended a friends wedding on the shores
of the lake.
LOTS of brown dogs and LOTS of Smuttynose beer in kegs. Can it
get any
better than good friends, dogs, and beer?

Here is a picture of the most spoiled brown dog in the world.
His name is Amos but we call him, The Smelly Brown Dog, Bubbie
or Mr. Snout. Don't let those cute looks fool you he's a bad
boy. But we don't know what we'd do without him. The blond with
him is Nellie. She's the brains of the outfit.

Greetings,
Here's an image with two small pictures of our wonderful dog
Brandy. One shows her holiday haircut, and the other captures
her relaxing around the crib at thirteen years of age. Sadly,
she is no longer with us, but her spirit lives on in our spunky
cats. Brandy is sorely missed.

This is our favorite brown dog, Ginger. She was a stray before
we got her so we're not sure how old she is. But she is the epitome
of a great big silly brown dog! Like most chocolate labs she
enjoys the water as we found while on vacation near Lake Michigan.
Recently she and her sister (a black lab mix...also a shelter
dog) traveled the Alaska Highway. Thanks for adding her to your
site!

9/12/03
This is Killian and she lives in West Dover, Vermont. She is
a chocolate lab mix who has just turned 10 and weighs in at a
svelte 52 pounds. She doesn't know she's 10 she likes to
huck herself off of high places into water, preferably lakes,
ponds and the like. Always after either a Kong or a Frisbee
usually gets fully submerged and comes up snorting. She likes
to try to bite the tires on moving bicycles and golf carts
never succeeds. She's caught her fair share of rodents
squirrels and mice, mostly enough mice to earn her title
of "The Great Mouse Hunter" (who needs cats?).
Killian
is the best dog who ever lived. Period. She's our best friend,
little buddy and personal/home/auto security system all rolled
up into one lovable ball of fur!

Oakley has no idea what a Big Brown Dog he is, and will happily
try to fit into your lap as well as other tight spaces. We first
discovered Oakley's love of the water when he tried to crawl
into his water dish. He has since moved on to rain barrels, baby
pools, rivers, lakes and oceans. Besides long walks on the beach,
he also enjoys retrieving, chewing, and rolling over. Sorry ladies,
he's been neutured!

Hi Peter,
I've attached a couple pictures of my dog Spencer. He's not exactly
an old brown dog, but his (and my) favorite Smuttynose creation
is OBD. They say it's difficult to break an old dog of habits.
Spencer is only 2 and a half years old, however I can't seem
to break him of this habit. See attached.

Olive?

Here is my Big Brown Dog. He is a 9 year old Chesapeake Bay
Retriever named Chester born December 17, 1994. The attached
labels are from our "Chessmass Beer". We celebrate
"Chessmass" every year, it is our Christmas party that
became "Chestmass" about 7 years ago to celebrate the
great Chesapeake. And a couple of years ago we started to make
our own "Chessmass" beer. Yes that is actually Chester
on the label. This year we are planning on doing a "Dead
Grass Ale" another colour of Chesapeakes.
Chester
does the typical Chesapeake stuff, like retrieve and swim, goes
for a walk and swim, goes for a drive and swim, goes for canoe
ride and swim, goes skiing and swim, goes anywhere and swim.
Yes
we have even served Old Brown Dog and your Robust Porter.
Cheers,

Pete,
I was
hoping you would post Sammie to your website.
She
is our chocolate lab, who loves to take rides in the jeep, play
ball and most of all swim. Here she is waiting to go for a ride
to Smuttynose as we are frequent visitors in Portsmouth.

"Tex", A beautiful brown Labrador, whose parents were
of US Embassy Security staff breed. Nine months old. Just went
through some minor surgery. Amazing how well a Lab can adopt
to wearing a collar for a week or so. He does not even believe
it is there, but honestly, it is very funny to see him in action
moving around as if it does not exist.

Calvin isn't brown, except around his mouth, where the chlorine
from his water bowl has bleached him out a little, but one of
his best friends is a chocolate lab, if that helps. Calvin hangs
out at the University of Miami, hence the need for sunglases.

This is a picture of our Big Brown Dog, Pacey. His second birthday

but he sure is brown.

Hello Peter,
This
is my dog Bogart. He is a Weimaraner. He is about 5 years old
in this picture. Other than enjoying a ride in my truck, he would
enjoy the occasional beer. Brown Ale was his preferred style.
The only way he would enjoy a beer is right out of a glass. If
I poured some in his bowl he would sit there and wait until I
poured it in a glass. He was funny that way. He has recently
passed away and I miss him dearly. It would be a nice tribute
if you can add him to your "Old Brown Dog" list.
Thank
you kindly,
Glenn Williams

Hi, I was sipping on a couple of your fine "brown dog"

Thank you,

Attached is a picture of my beautiful chocolate lab - Bailey.
Bailey lives in Scarborough, Maine with her mom, dad, and new

diving under the water for rocks and spending as much time as
possible at the beach.

Here is Jake. He is a Golden Retriever, although he has no idea
what retrieve means. He is EXTREMELY laid back and his version
of exercise is laying on the front porch and once a day getting
up to bark at the UPS man to give him a treat. Because he is
so laid back he will let us do anything to him (hence the picture)
as long as he does not have to stand up too long. He loves being
held like a baby and is convinced that the floor is not meant
for dogs, therefore he sleeps on my bed and lays on the couch
every night to watch TV.
This
is a great site for all the dog lovers out there, thanks.

We just had a company function in which beer that was offered
was Smuttynose. I couldn't decide which to try until I saw the
label for Old Brown Dog. It's Bleu, my wiemaraner. She's gray,
but when she comes in after a long swim, her coat is brown. Anyway,
the beer was great and I'm bringing home a 6-pack tonight to
share with my husband. Here's a picture of Bleu for your Web
site, looking like a perfect lady in her pink t-shirt.

Greetings, This is Phoscious he is not a brown dog, but a small
mantle colored Great Dane. However he loves Old Brown Dog Ale,
since it doesn't give him gas. The guys at the fire house appreciate
that, so we share it with him.

Murray lives in Aloha, Oregon (a suburb of Portland). This handsome
pup is a 4 month old, energetic chocolate lab. He is a quick
learner and very loving. He enjoys long walks, car rides, fetching
anything thrown to him and eating...food seems to be a highlight
of his day!

This is Sandie, named not so much for her coloring but more for
all of the sand she picks up at the beach here in Rye, New Hampshire
and brings into the house. Her favorite things are food, walks
on the beach and rides in the car. She lives with her parents
Michelle & Charles near the Smuttynose Brewery and has actually
had the pleasure of meeting, smelling and sharing a slimy tennis
ball with the famous Old Brown Dog, Olive. Her favorite beer
is the Robust Porter.
