Hello Peter-

To answer your question of the little girl, she is with a great family in Richmond, Virginia, with a Golden Receiver friend. My parents came up two weeks after this picture was taken and took her back down south where she is now. My mom told the story of what happened during work in the middle of a surgery. The doctor she was talking to told her that he really wanted the girl, so that is the family she is now with. This picture was taken in Stowe, Vermont, right after I had arrived there on the way to New York. Couldn't have made it any better if I tried. Her name is Lucy.

Hello Peter,

Here's the story of my dog Angus. I was driving down the road in North Carolina on my way to New York, my new duty station, when I saw someone in a pickup toss two small brown pups out of the door. We were out in the middle of the countryside by a county dump. We went straight over and picked them up. They weren't hurt, fortunately, but still had no teeth, being sooo young. The vet said they were no older than 4-5 weeks. So, on the way to New York they went with us and - long story short - here we are now 10 months old and 85-plus pounds. The first picture is Angus on the wall at our wedding in Stowe, Vermont, on the 2nd of July. The second picture is him present day.

My dad looked up the site after we saw Brown Dog Ale. He and my mom saw the pictures and told me to check the calender pictures and the stories. Thanks for letting me tell the story of Angus the Brown.

I just tried your Brown Dog Ale for the first time and was quite pleased with its exceptional quality. I have broad taste in beer but usually find brown ales not quite complex enough for my taste. This time I was pleasantly surprised and will add it to my monthly imbibing list along with your Shoals Pale Ale and IPA! I have had trouble finding your seasonal and Big Beer Series but I would certainly like to try them.

And now for my pup. Even though she is far from brown, I would like to submit our baby, Lady, aka Poop de Vil, a 7 year old American Cocker, to your Old Brown Dog pinup page. While she doesn't share my taste in hops or malts she sits quietly and adds atmosphere sitting at my side while I enjoy the fruits of your labor. She is a meat, nut and fruit eater and drinks only water (bottled or fresh from our deep well). As a pup she was plagued with allergies but has overcome this with age. She is our veterinarians favorite because of the size of her monthly vet bills.

Hello,

I would like to introduce to you my Chocolate Lab, “she's simply A-MAIZEE-ING.” Maizee is an AKC-registerd Chocolate Labrador Retriever. Her mother, Chili, is also an AKC-registered Yellow Labrador Retriever. Chili was the proud mother of 9 puppies on September 27th, 2008. I don't know exactly what it was about Maizee, but she was born in my hand and I spent every night out in the puppy pen providing each and every pup plenty of TLC.

I feel that Maizee was brought to me for a reason. She and I share a relationship that you will not find with other dogs and their owners. She goes everywhere I go and is pretty well known around here at the bank, farm store and even one of our favorite watering holes! She is as far from being a dog as I am. She and I have a connection that makes me think she is someone coming back into my life as my guardian angel. I thank God every night for this dog simply because she has brought so much joy, laughter and love to my life.

Murphy is a 11 year old GSP. Coincidentally my kids call him the “Old Brown Dog” too. I have included a couple of pictures including a Holiday photo. Murphy is still very active and enjoys tracking and chasing birds and squirrels. My family gave me an Old Brown Dog tee shirt which has worn out (I need a new one) several years ago and I have an empty bottle of Old Brown Dog Ale on my desk because Olive and Murphy are so similar.

She was rescued from a shelter in Williamsburg, Virginia in February 2009 and has helped us weather the storm of our lives ever since. As you can tell they were best of friends and did everything together. It has been a hard adjustment for all of us not having Elvis around but I think Hailey misses him the most.

This is Milo, our +/- two year old Plott Hound. We rescued him from the Penacook SPCA earlier this summer, and though we've been drinking OBD for quite some time, we only just realized the resemblance. We caught him in one of his rare still moments here - he's usually off like a shot after some big game (chipmunks are a favorite). Luckily, we're right next to the White Mountains National Forest, so there's plenty of room to roam. Thanks for the great beer and a chance to share our boy.

This is my Hazel...she was abused at 8 or so weeks of age..She was kicked so hard in her back right leg by some monster that her growth plate was destroyed. One speculation is that she may have been used for a bait dog if she wasn't rescued...I don't know why, she is a beautiful girl! After many surgeries, she ended up losing her leg. It just goes to show the spirit of all animals, especially my "pibble"...she does not have one mean bone in her body! She STILL shows incredible amounts of love to the very species that hurt her...she loves all people, kids, and all animals, even squirrels. She only barks if she feels we are in danger.. everyone I meet with her she loves and they love her! You should meet her too, but for starters, she would love to be an Old Brown Dog pinup!

Hi,

My name is Margaret Aguilar and I want to share with you the story of my dog, Rambo, and how we became acquainted with your Old Dog Brown Ale.

My husband and his father love to taste new beers every chance they get. Many times they'll select a beer based simply on its packaging, which is how I was introduced to this particular beer of yours. My husband David was eager to show me the packaging when I walked into the kitchen one day and said to me "Who does this look like?" (referring to Olive). I said "Oh my God, there's no way! She looks exactly like Rambo!"

Until last week, I was sure there was no other dog out there that looked like ours. Rambo was a rescue pup that I picked up when she was just shy of 6 weeks old. The adoption agency told me she was a Lab/Hound mix. However, now that she's a year old, there's just no way - she has topped out at 42 lbs and is extremely lean muscled (her body resembles that of a Whippet), has floppy ears and very short fur. For entertainment purposes, we purchased a DNA testing kit and got the results a few weeks back. According to the results she is a mix of Irish Setter, German Shepard, Golden Retriever, Poodle, and Bulldog. Tell me, do you see any of those in the attached?

At any rate, I'm glad you allow postings on your site for brown dog pinups. Let me know if you'd like to borrow her for a photo shoot :)

Here's a pic of our 16 month old American chocolate lab, Bob, taking a break from swimming on vacation in New Hampshire earlier this month. This was on the day after he summited Mt. Washington too! His "dad" is a big fan of Old Brown Dog Ale, particularly during the Fall and Winter. He and his work team also make it ritual to pop into your Portsmouth Brewery for a few pints on trips back from client meetings in Portland, ME. Big fans all around. Including Bob, who's often found sneaking an empty bottle of Old Brown Dog Ale from the recycling bin and licking whatever remnants he can lap up!

Bob would be honored as an Old Brown Dog Pin-up!

Recently, we visited friends in Milwaukee, WI and were pleased to find your Old Brown Dog beer in a local liquor store. Originally, we purchased it because of the label as we have a 12 year old chocolate lab. It wasn't until our daughter visited last weekend that we noticed the name, "Olive" under the picture. This is Chip, is a pitbull mix with a big smile and an even bigger heart. He was adopted from Little Shelter back in October of 08, and has adjusted quite well to his spoiled life. He loves to go for walks, rides in the car, and thinks he is a lap dog…all 56 lbs of him. He is super social and loves other dogs and showing others how great pitbulls can be.

I adopted Daphne from NHSPCA in Stratham about two years ago. She has been a fantastic addition to my life. Daphne loves to play with sticks and tennis balls, however, she LOVES to play with other dogs even more! She is freindly and is always wagging her tail especially at new people. Daphne is not a beer drinker.....just don't put your glass of single malt scotch down near her though casue GULP! What can I say she has sophisticated taste. I love my pup she ROCKS!

Greeting from Canada ! My name is Guinness. I’m 60 pounds of serious retriever and I am getting pretty darn good at tracking. Sometimes I wish I was a Lab though – when the snow is wet it sticks to my legs and I look ridiculous.

I love used kleenex and my stuffed hedgehog but my owner lovers beer and has put Portsmouth, NH on the itinerary for our next road trip. That is, after we climb Mt. Washington together.

When I came across your beer and photo of Olive on her chair at the beach, I fondly thought how similar she was to my Brown Dog (inspiration for my company, Brown Dog Creative) named Fay who also had a favorite chair. She died this December at the age of 14. They just don't stick around long enough for my taste. Lucky for me I have a "backup" in kid sister, Bailey (brown dog number two), and am crazily working on another rescue.

My company also has a gallery page. It great how much dog owners love to see their pals online.

Here is a picture of my recent dog Lokie. She was a rottweiler and we had to put her down in May due to a variety of problems including bone cancer, arthritis, hip dysplasia, and a torn ACL that she already had surgery on. She was a great dog throughout her entire life and even as she got older and more in pain, she never once lost her youthful, puppy-like spirit. She was always, and will always be part of the family.

Here's to all the great dogs out there and to Smuttynose beer!

This is a picture of my dad’s dog, Kuma. Kuma means bear in Japanese. I don’t know how old she is. Kuma is the 3rd lab my dad owned. The other ones didn’t make it when they were young. After we got Kuma we thought that “this is the one.” Soon after she broke her back leg. She had months of rehabilitation to get back to herself and has been a wounderful dog ever since.

Hi there Smuttynose!

This is Mo, quite old but not quite brown. He was found tied to a tree in a park in Connecticut one cold January long ago. He was rescued by Flora of Flora’s Pet Project. When I saw his picture on petfinder.com, it was love at 1st sight – turns out you can find love online!

Mo has only 1 tooth left and loves using it, especially on chicken! His favorite is a chicken stew made with beer. He likes snuggling, being hand fed, and the occasional road trip. My only complaint is his terrible taste in music! With him, I have the family I always wanted. He’s taught me the meaning of “unconditional love” and I’m a better person for having him in my life. He’s my Rosebud!

Attached is our brown dog Oliver. He has quite the story behind him.

We rescued from a shelter when he was only 3 months old. When we got him they diagnosed him with severe hip displasia. So we put him on pain meds and vitamins and he seemed to be doing much better. About 2 months ago the poor fellow got diagnosed with meningitis. It pretty much crippled him and we thought we would have to put him down. But they put him on some good meds and he was able to survive. While trying to diagnose his meningitis case they took an MRI of his hips and they noticed that his hips were dislocated...which really concerned me. But after taking a closer look they said that his hips actually shifted and formed a new joint for his hips. He is now off all his medications and can run around perfectly fine. He is the true story of an unlucky pup who is a survivor.

Also if you trying to distinguish what type of dog he is...so are we. The shelter said Weimaraner mix. We think maybe a Rhodesian Ridgeback/ Lab mix of some kind.

Tyson is 3 years old and is a true sun worshipper and as you can see, a very proud doberman and very handsome if you ask me! Although not a big beer drinker, he sneezes every time he even gets a lick, he loves a good BBQ and beer drinkers company around him! He's recently been diagnosed with lymphoma and doesn't have too much longer with me but kudos to him as he has been fighting it like a champ. I rescued a German Shorthaired Pointer - the mascot of your Old Brown Dog Ale. He was gun shy. His name is Frothy Brown Porter because he looks like the foam of a porter (you can see our love for good beer...). Some dogs join you in bed, but our brown dog sleeps head first - under the covers. He can also run 29 laps around our 1/2 acre lot without stopping. He can also run around our 4' diameter tree - 12 times one way and then 12 times the opposite way - in 1 minute without stopping. His energy is amazing!

We sit on the porch and drink our Old Brown Dog Ale while throwing the stick repeatedly for hours on end. He loves to lick the inside of a beer bottle and would surely partake in the lovliness of an Old Brown Dog Ale if we were to look away or leave a bottle unaccompanied. I supppose we should just take him running, but that would mean no Old Brown Dog Ale for us - so this way - everyone wins! We LOVE Old Brown Dog Ale. He can also fly - as you'll see in the snowy shot! We love our brown dog...even though he's not even 2 yet - certainly not old.

This is Finnegan, a 1-1/2 year old Wheaten Terrier that has tons of energy and loves being outside whether it's taking a fall hike or going for a summer swim. Here is a photo of him during a hike craving a refreshing Smuttynose Old Brown Dog Ale while his master is craving a Finestkind IPA.

Hello there,

A friend sent me a link to your site while at work. You just made it to the FL market and we look forward to trying out the Old Brown Dog Ale. Took a minute to view your adorable Old Brown Dog pinups and had to submit our own.

Tully is a year and half old chocolate lab. He’s full of energy and is a Frisbee fetching machine. Also loves to chew and go to the dog beach to swim and of course, play more fetch.

My wife and I just went shopping and noticed your Old Brown Dog beer. We bought it in commemoration of our dog Sam(pson) who died 2 years ago about this time. We will drink the beer in memory of him and put the bottle next to his ashes. There is an uncanny likeness between Sam and Olive!

Hello Smuttynose:

Who would buy a six pack of ale based on a photo of a dog on the carton? Us. We recently adopted a rescue dog we named Kona who was billed as a chocolate lab. However, she has ears that are a bit too long and too curved for a lab, a white crest on her chest and white tips on a couple of her paws. In fact, she's pretty much a stand-in for Olive (sorry to read of her passing in 2007)...we lost our yellow lab, Sadie, last year and we know how that feels. Sadie was in charge of our firm's Accounts Retrievable and is featured on our web site. We're attaching a photo of Kona...it's not a glamour shot like Olive's, just one we took the other day in our backyard in Long Valley, NJ. And Kona is only six months old so she has a bit of maturing yet but the resemblance is pretty strong. We think there may be some Weimaraner in Kona (making her a "Labmaraner") because of the ears and the eye color. What breed was Olive?

By the way, we already consumed half of the Old Brown Dog Ale we purchased at Wegmans (we shared it with a friend) and all agreed it was excellent; the dog stuff aside, we'll be purchasing more. So, maybe it wasn't so surprising to try an ale based on a picture of a dog....and nice to know Olive is still making a connection.

Ladies and Gentlemen:

Here is a photo of Pudge the Blind Beagle. Pudge was a rescued special needs dog that my daughter adopted in Andover, Massachusetts. He is five or six years old and navigates by memory. He is fun loving, loves to run on a long leash in parking lots where there are no obstructions for him to bump his head, and tolerates his new baby sister very well. He is a canine vacuum cleaner when it comes to food and can sniff out and devour the smallest crumb. His human grandfather (me) is an Old Brown Dog Ale fan.

Hi there,

I'm a New England transplant to Georgia that was recently delighted to see that Smuttynose had made its way to my local liquor store. Even more delighted than I was the one Rob Dye, who encouraged me to shoot over this email. I'm attaching a photo of Rob's 4 year old Jack Russell Terrier, Penny, to nominate her as a brown dog pin up. This is a photo of Penny in a boat on East Crooked Lake in Eustis Florida, where she led the maiden voyage of Rob's dad's new flatbottom freight canoe. She was an excellent navigator. I've attached other photos of her on the lake as well. I hope you will think of Penny as an excellent candidate for brown dog pin up. We do.

Here is our Australian Shepherd Chelsey. She was born February 25, 1997, and will soon celebrate her 12th Birthday. Old Brown Dog is my favorite Smutty beer.

This is my Old Brown Dog, he’s a big ol’ love bug! Buster Brown is now 9 1/2 years old. He was a crazy chocolate lab when we first adopted him. His fall out of the car about 4 years ago has slowed him a bit. A brachial plexus injury has left him with use of only 3 of his legs. He gets around quite well, even with 3 legs, especially when there is food to be had.

I am sending a picture of my “Brown Dog” named Eli in hopes you will post it on your website. Eli was named after NY Giants Quarterback, Eli Manning as he was born on Susperbowl Sunday February 3, 2008, which everyone knows was the biggest superbowl win for the Giants in a LONG time! Since Eli will be 1 on February 3rd, we have decided as a “birthday present” we are going to let him try some Smuttynose Old Brown Dog Ale. I think he’ll like it, but I’ll let you know. This is Louie. He was adopted from the Rock County Humane Society in March of 2003. About three years later I was shopping for a new beer when I saw Olive, who looks a lot like Louie. Hogan; a Yellow Lab named after Ben Hogan the legendary golfer. She is one of a kind who absolutely loves fetching golf balls, chewing sticks, hiking, and jogging with anyone going by the house. Full of energy is an understatement but has plenty of open area to run.

In February, 2008, I was traveling on business to NH. I had my first Old Brown Dog at the Salt Hill Inn in Lebanon. I liked it so much I went back for more the next night. Since we don't have the O.B.D. down south I'll be putting in a special request at my local package store. This pic is of my boxer Munson with my son. Munson is 5 years old and a great Old Brown Dog.
